Reinvesting in British Wool
We've always been strong advocates for producing closer to home as well as sustaining and supporting local industries, celebrating their expertise and knowledge.
We make all of our pieces in the UK and Europe and in 2020 we launched the pre-cursor to what is turning into the Heritage Collection today: the Molly Cardigan.
The love you have shown our Molly cardigan and the pride we have from having created a high-quality knit that is made in the UK and from British wool has spurred us on to do more! Our new knits are all made in the UK too, from 100% British wool.
Extending the collection has allowed us to work with a new knitwear manufacturer too, supporting more local business in the process! The wool for our new knits is sourced from the same supplier as our Heritage Molly: Laxtons. And this year they have dyed yarn in specific, bespoke colours just for us! It guarantees you a unique piece in characteristic Palava colours.
Corvette & Popcorn Cardigans
These 2 new additions to the Heritage Knitwear family are as unique as they are colourful. To create them, we have worked with Jack Masters, a UK knitwear design and manufacturer based in Leicester.
1. The wool used to create these new cardigans is made from a blend of wool from 2 different breeds of sheep: Blue Faced Leicester and Masham.
2. The full process to get fleece to finished yarn is all done in Yorkshire; from combing and spinning the yarn to dying it the desired colours.
3. The yarn is delivered to our manufacturers in Leicester, ready to be knitted into our new cardigans.
4. Bespoke Corozo nut and wood buttons arrive from Europe to be sewn onto the knitwear.
4. Once complete, Corvette and Popcorn are packaged up and delivered to Zoe and Sam at the Palava warehouse in Yorkshire.
From sheep to Palava warehouse, the total distance travelled by the cardigan is just under 300 miles.
Molly
Continuing to celebrate our Molly cardigan - the original heritage knit - we have a new colour also made from 100% British wool. The full production process goes as follows:
1. The wool used to create these new cardigans is made from a blend of wool from 2 different breeds of sheep: Blue Faced Leicester and Masham.
2. The process to get fleece to finished yarn is all done in Yorkshire; from combing to spinning the yarn. Part of the yarn is dyed in Romania to ensure the colours are just right, the rest are dyed in Yorkshire.
3. The yarn is delivered to our manufacturers in Mansfield, ready to be knitted into our favourite Molly.
4. Bespoke hand-cast pewter buttons arrive from Derbyshire to be sewn onto the knit.
4. Once complete, Molly cardigans are packaged up and delivered to Zoe and Sam at the Palava warehouse in Yorkshire.
The total distance travelled by the cardigan, after the yarn being dyed, is 200 miles.
